The Light Plays

Hilarity ensues when two people discover they have been renting the same room. Once the secret is out of the bag, their landlady tries to keep the peace, but the newfound roommates realize they might have more in common than a room…

A monk attempts to solve an intricate problem – of secrets, love, and even murder – through the simple  medium of dinner conversations. The very first play the Pennyless Players ever performed – 15 years ago!

Books! We treat them as if they were mere object. But what if they told their own stories? Three books wake up on a bookshelf and discover their ability to communicate with any potential reader in the audience – how will they use it? Will they try to get to know each other? Or will they judge each other by their cover? An interactive improv concept where the audience gets to control different books each show!

Would you change your last name to something ridiculous? …for money? For how much money? What if you need the money to marry the daughter of your political rival?


The Dark Plays

A murder mystery with a feminist twist. A husband has been found dead, strangled in his bed. His wife has been arrested, but the sheriff and other men can’t find a motive or any proof that she did it. The neighborhood women, however, see a completely different story, recognizing both clues and proof of what happened – will they tell?

The sea holds both riches and horrors, its waves constantly changing facts into dreams into obsessions. A father firmly believes his ship – and its treasure – will return; his son, that the ship is irrevocably lost and the treasure an illusion. Will they escape the maelstrom or will they drag each other down? An exploration of madness, the supernatural, and family loyalty vs. betrayal.

An archaeologist and a self-proclaimed naturalist, confined to a small farmhouse. Tensions between Mr X and Ms Y come to a head on the eve of the woman’s departure. As a storm ravishes the countryside, they clash in a debate of guilt, remorse, and sin in a tense struggle for survival.


What We Do On Stage
