In November, 5/6/9/10/12/13, 2016 @ Stockwerk Jazz (Jakominiplatz 18) the Pennyless Players will perform Love Conquers All, by former Graz University professor and playwright, David Newby.

Following their appearance on her television show, the psychiatrist Louisa McAllister invites two participants, Dr. Hillary and Rev. Peter Burton, to spend a weekend with her and her linguist husband Matthew at their summer house. Yet as they attempt to enjoy the breath-taking views of the sea and relax by playing games, drinking cocktails and ‘almost flirting with each other’s wives,’ tensions begin to emerge. Ghosts from the past and present hover over their merry-making, existential questions subvert their games of Trivial Pursuits and communication only serves to blur their views of reality. Why is the garden full of poisonous flowers? Is the island that can be seen through the summer house window a mirage? Can Alice in Wonderland provide solace where William Shakespeare and the Bible cannot?
In Newby’s comic tragedy, Chekhov meets Pinter, Ibsen meets Stoppard, in an intriguing and entertaining cocktail of linguistics, philosophy, psychology and religion, garnished with British humour.
