The Salesman is dead!

And he has died no less than four times in a row! Between May 22 and 25 audiences were able to witness the tragic story around Willy Loman and his family: Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Each night at Kristallwerk, the Loman family disintegrated, torn apart by unfulfilled dreams, overwhelming expectations and unspoken secrets.

Over five months of work have gone into this play. Difficult, often exhausting work; but work that, though unpaid, always felt meaningful and true – and is this not the most rewarding outcome, taking this particular play’s central theme into account? Willy Loman always hoped – but failed – to get appreciation for his labor, so let’s at least grant this appreciation to all the people involved in his death.

The actors gave their all to this challenging classic of modern US-American drama. Their intense, touching performances were rewarded with multiple curtain calls, standing ovations, critical acclaim, and more than one shed tear. Three sold-out performances make this play The Pennyless Players’ most successful one in recent years in terms of viewership. A well-deserved success, given the effort, thought, and passion all actors put into their characters over the course of the last five months

But the contribution of the many, many people who did not get to stand on stage must also be aknowledged and appreciated: We thank all our talented crew members whose voluntary work and (lots of) time put furniture on the stage, the actors into costume and makeup, promotion on the internet and into newspapers, brought music and light to Kristallwerk, and so much more!

Willy Loman’s travels around New England have come to an end and we thank everyone for their company, help, support, and appreciation along the road! The Pennyless Players’ journey, though, continues, towards future projects!
