Stand with us against the cancellation of the ORF-Landesabgabe, against cutting the cultural budget, and for a rich, diverse, and open cultural life in Styria. Help us by signing this petition!
Since the budget cuts last year, cultural institutions in Styria, especially small and independent ones, are feeling the pressure from the FPÖ-ÖVP state government. Now this pressure is increasing as the coalition threatens to cancel the ORF-Landesabgabe starting 2027. This is a payment of 4.70€/month every Styrian household makes together with the Austrian broadcast fee. A small contribution per household that means a lot to Styria’s cultural landscape, since this fee makes up almost a third of the state’s overall cultural budget.
This will drastically affect all branches of culture: theatre, music, literature, museums, and many more, as well as sports. Everyone is going to feel the consequences, from large, established institutions like Schauspielhaus to smaller, independent ventures like yours truly. Styria’s cultural landscape will be diminished. The Freie Szene, that we are a part of, will be among the first to go, and with it much of the creativity, diversity, and openness it is known and beloved for.
The Pennyless Players stand with #kulturlandretten against the cancellation of the ORF-Landesabgabe. If you do, too, help us and many, many more creators and enjoyers of Styria’s cultural life by signing this petition: https://mein.aufstehn.at/p/landesabgabe
