“1984” puts current and controversial topics such as total surveillance, brainwashing, and autocratic systems into the spotlight of the stage. It creates a merciless dystopian world that questions the limits of humanity.
The play follows W. Smith’s gradual disillusionment with Party doctrines that have to be followed blindly. Smith’s emotional journey starts when Julia first appears. They fall in love and join the rebellion to fight Big Brother. But the Party discovers their intentions and their loyalty is tested to extremes.
